Nate Thompson and I went to SXSW in March of 2009. We brought a video camera. The result was some 100-odd video clips pumped straight to YouTube.
Why?
Well, I am of the school of thought that whenever people take footage of conferences, they leave out the parts that really matter — you know — the walking for hours on end, the being hopelessly lost, the size of the rooms and all the travel fun inbetween. The story is only partially told through the scripted events, what I think is really fascinating is all the unscripted bits.
Considering this is probably the most video I have ever shot in my entire life, I think it turned out really well. So well, in fact, that I think I might carry my camera around and film events obnoxiously for at least the next few months.
