I have a love/hate relationship with Antivirus software. While I get the warm fuzzies knowing that there is something in the background protecting me from all of the crime and villany the web has to offer, it seems that whenever I really need it to work it fails to do much of anything.
Virus’, you see, have this funny way of disabling the things that are meant to disable them, rendering most of the more common antivirus programs less than useful in a pinch.
My solution has been to load a copy of Spybot onto a USB drive and whenever danger strikes, plug it in and let them fight it out. The nice thing about an Antivirus on a USB is that the virus doesn’t know what hit it, and in my experience most are unable to hide.
With this in mind, I am always excited to see how an Antivirus holds up — cue VIPRE Antivirus software , which is a combination Spyware and Antivirus program introduced to me by the good folks at IZEA. The best thing I’ve seen so far is that it doesn’t slow your computer down quite as much as some of the heavier Antivirus’. This is great for people who play games or other CPU intensive programs. It’s also nice for those of us who keep about 30 Firefox tabs open at once and aren’t that interested in a scheduled scan crashing our computers.
Sound interesting? That’s great because I am about to ask you a favor. What I want from you is to test this baby out. I have a free copy of VIPRE that I want to give out right here and right now. All you have to do to win it is to leave a comment telling me either:
1. What Antivirus you are using right now?
Or
2. What is your best Antivirus horror story?
The winner will get sent a code to get a copy of VIPRE. Try it out and send me an email with what you think.
Yes, it’s that simple, now get too it!
