Motivation

“Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.” — Winston Churchill

Have reasonable expectations - Blogging is a hard, often thankless hobby. When you start out, chances are good that no one will be paying attention and your traffic will be, well, disappointing. Understand that you have to crawl before you can walk, and try to enjoy the process rather than the results.

Keeping Motivated

Don’t think about the money - If you think you are going to make your fortune off of blogging, realize that you would probably make better money getting a part-time job at a local convenience store. Blog because you love it. It’s a lot easier to create good content when you aren’t clawing and scratching for every penny.

Pick a topic that’s interesting to you - If everything goes according to plan, you are going to be writing for you blog for a good, long time. Pick a topic that is broad enough to evolve as you do. Make sure that whatever you choose to write about, it’s something you feel like you’d be comfortable pontificating on 2 years down the line.

Become comfortable with your schedule - You don’t have to write ten posts a day. If you feel like you’re forcing posts out of the gate, you’ll soon burn out. Pick a schedule that you feel like you can keep up with and stick to it.
