If you plan on spending anytime on Front-end design, whether for a large project or just to work out some of the kinks on your personal site, you should have some idea of the basics of CSS. Take a look at this introduction, and when you’re done follow the bouncing links for more information.

Wendy’s Quick Guide – Only the facts here, but an excellent reference for anyone new to the wonders of the style sheet.

W3 School – An easy to reference, easy to use guide to CSS. It’s a must read for anyone looking for information on the subject (or really any number of subjects).

CSS Templates – Some free templates to take a look at. There is no better way to learn a subject than to see a few examples.

Guide To CSS – Just in case you didn’t get it the first couple of times, this guide comes in multiple languages.

I just finished the artwork for a tutorial on Peachpit Press for The Transcendence of CSS II by Andy Clarke using my letterpress work. What I loved about the project was using the hand done work on the press for a digital lesson on CSS. One form of mass communication (Gutenberg press 1400's) to the present day of media.

Custom software development

The best way to learn css imho is to take a free template and play with it. Comment certain things change colors, move divs, try to create a website the way you like it starting from something that already exists. Only after you've understood how everything works and how to achieve the results you want with a web site can you move on to more complicated things like designing a website from scratch.
