“Diamonds are forever. E-mail comes close.” — June Kronholz
Need a better way to filter your emails? This might help.
All Gmail addresses can be appended with a +. By doing this, you can set up an easy to use filtering mechanism for your Gmail account.
Let’s say that you sign up for an account at some flashy new web service but you know that eventually you’re going to want to send all of those pesky newsletters where they belong. By setting your email address as “youraddress+webservice@gmail.com” you can then create a filter that will corral all of these emails, making it just a little bit easier to push them into the circular file.
One final tip (via Jarrod), by using a different + for every web service you sign up for, you can track who is selling your information. Next time you get an ad promising to “lengthen your love luger,” just check the address field and the information broker will be revealed.
