Bottom Line: While retaining its top spot as the most competitive country in the I.T. industry, foreign markets are beginning to nip at the United State’s heels. America’s competitiveness index score has dropped from 77.4 (out of 100) in 2007 to 74.6. Meanwhile, countries like Taiwan, Denmark and Sweden have made significant gains.
The top ten countries according to this index are the United States, Taiwan, United Kingdom, Sweden, Denmark, Canada, Australia, South Korea, Singapore, and the Netherlands.
The factors that are measured in the I.T. competitiveness index are –
An ample supply of high-skilled workers; an innovation-friendly culture; world-class technology infrastructure; a robust legal regime that protects intellectual property such as patents and copyrights; an open, competitive economy; and government leadership that strikes the right balance between promoting technology and allowing market forces to work
