Once a week, as a part of Startup Reactor, Mark Hager will provide us with a working journal of what life has been like working on his startup, Age In Place. All feedback is greatly appreciated.

It’s been business as usual this week. More ideas than we can possibly implement and time constraints.

Time is a real issue for all three of us. Since we all work full time jobs, it is difficult for everyone to get as much time in as they’d like. It is a serious issue and it is only getting worse. It’s weeks like this that makes me fantasize about having funding. However, I know that’s not all roses, so I’ll stick to the bootstrapping plan.

We’ve got three new sections under way, all of which go towards our goal of being a clearinghouse for aging in place resources and information. Two of the three are dependant on content being created. The third is a directory of resources at a local level. I’ve looked at several directory plugins for WordPress, none of which function properly. I’ve considered just building sub-pages for each state, then for city pages, but at some point in the near future I’ll need to include this information on city-specific sections that are in the pipeline. I’d really rather have a directory I could pull it in from. I need to figure out the best solution. Any ideas?

It’s official … we’re really struggling with generating original content. What we really need is a way to find cheap (free?) writing services from people who actually know what they are talking about in our space. I’m open to hear any ideas.

Our business plan seems to be coming along, now. We’re getting into the nitty-gritty of financials and such. As my partner could tell you, creating business plan really makes you think about what you’re doing (building, selling). It forces you to seriously consider the many aspects of your project. Even to the point of looking at it from the other side of the table … as someone who might be interested in funding (buying, partnering, etc.). Overall, a taxing, but extremely insightful, exercise.

Until next week…
