If you have ever been caught in traffic on your daily commute, you’ll know that one of the most frustrating parts of the experience can be hearing all about your plight on your radio.
The city of New York is trying to eliminate this problem with the help of a $1.5 Million super computer. This computer, along with data derived from Easy Pass booths, will model and simulate road traffic conditions.

The hope is to use this information to give drivers 30 minute look ahead over their radios, directing them away from congested areas and helping to reduce the air pollution caused by gridlock.
The first test of this system will take place in East Harlem, where traffic congestion is attributed to the higher than average asthma rates amongst residents.
