Sphinx

For places like the Luxor Hotel in Los Vegas (pictured) that have made an art form of full scale reproductions of ancient structures, Egypt’s recent push to control the dissemination of replicas is an expensive and likely frustrating precedent.

From BBC, “Mr Hawass said the law would apply to full-scale replicas of any object in any museum in Egypt.

‘Commercial use’ of ancient monuments like the pyramids or the sphinx would also be controlled, he said.

‘Even if it is for private use, they must have permission from the Egyptian government,’ he added.”

Creative Commons should really look into adding licensing for monuments. The question, is there a better way to control a national “product” such as this or has Egypt gotten this right?
