The normal geek would say awsome to this. Let me rephrase their comment:

“This network includes video cameras and microphones, all interconnected and programmed to record our conversations and activities. The central computer will store all the data.”

Hmmm, starting to get the picture? Police state? Totalitarian democratic state? People nerver, ever, try to find out the horendous implications of technology, and it will be humanity's undoing.

If I ever heard a transhumanist/scientist saying that next to me, I swear on my life I would stab him in the kidneys until his mind breaks. If the quote is joke or not, I would be careful about putting some scientist's words in the mouth of the entire population. You brainwashed people have no idea what you are getting yourselfs into with such “advances”. Remember this, the most advanced technology is, and will be, in the military. Why? Is it because it's “awsome”? Is it because they're obsessed about knowledge like Edward Teller was and J.R. Oppenheimer wasn't? Or maybe is it because of power? The later does ring a bell. And who does the military serve? The… people? Remember the Cold War, Patton, MKUltra and many, many other experiments. The military serves the ruling class and the ruling class clearly doesn't give a damn about the population. Think well you technological enthusiasts when a potential weapon comes onto the market or seeps humanity in another dark hellhole.
