Sure there's a tendency to laugh & be cynical about the Guy Kawaski concept of 'change the world', but it's refreshing to get a view away from the self centred trivia of Facebook & co. Not another social networking site or tools to do not really too much, but something with a potential to do some real good in some way. It is really great to think that here the internet's potential hasn't yet really started. Once we get past the novelty, the fun & Facebook stage, do we then start to arrive at the true significance of the web, the www for human betterment ?

I agree that there are some applications like Kiva that are doing a lot of good. Google also just came out with a program that will help find the victims of child pornography (supposedly, they just made it, i think). But I wonder how much more good we could do if we weren't "selling the sizzle."

I agree with you 120%. What I am saying more than anything is that we seem to be in a culture where "substantial"' projects always take second chair to projects that, at the end of the day, are interesting but not necessarily revolutionary.

If both received similar coverage, that would be great -- they both must exist for a vibrant economy. I just don't think it's necessarily good that one is so seemingly under appreciated.
