Honestly, I don't remember anymore. :)

Most social sites are just a fad. Livejournal used to be the most popular thing out there, but it died. It seems like myspace and facebook are here to stay, but most of them aren't. Twitter seems like it may or may not survive the long-run just because there isn't much to it (which is good or bad depending on how you look at it).

The only one I really use it facebook, it's a million times better than myspace.

Twitter is keeping its users for now, even through daily outages we all stay. It's at the point where to move us all on mass to another site will be near impossible.

I think 0-3 sites will still be ok. Having so many social sites having the same connections would be redundant and It would be difficult to maintain so many accounts.

The question can also be asked this way: How many cell phones do you need? I can only answer one at a time; and there is a chance I will be answering the wrong one at the wrong time. There is a point where we will forget where we are and the time it takes to get your bearings will make your head explode (like in Cronenberg's film Scanners).

Plus too many people begin to mix their personal and business into too many SocNets, it diminishes and blurs their "brand". Concentrate on the most important social networks and put your best into them. A brand stretched on too many platforms is a diluted one.
