Twitter has a suggestion for the Twitter newbie that to make you more “real” , you should add a “real picture” of yourself to your profile. That got me to thinking about the new words being thrown around to describe what is now available through the internet that was never possible in real life. So I made a list that can be co-opted by you all out there, especially the ones writing a Business Plan or Power Point to sell their latest Internet Idea. So lets retire “Stickiness” and bring in fresh blood.

ecause Timmy O’Toule and Sarah Johnson want to walk home with a cuddly new friend not a laser-etched DVD. We’re extraordinarily proficient at rolling out applications that live out their brief lives in our computers, but we are so bad at using those applications as drivers for the next generation of hardware.

Humans like to feel and touch a product before purchasing it, especially the expensive ones. They are just not ready to purchase data off the web.
Rif Chia

Very insightful. A lot of the stuff you talk about is over my head to be quite honest, but what I grasp I really get something out of. thanks

Even so, at least with a concert I am -going- somewhere. People are a lot less likely to buy something that boils down to information.

For me, it is not so much about the shiny paint job, but what is under it.

In regards to computers, I don't want my hardware to be so intertwined with my software, that I am forced to only buy from one vendor or am unable to use software that does not have a relationship with my hardware.

I think a lot of what we do hardware side is build engines without cars. Except on the technical side (smaller, faster, cheaper) we still build hardware the same way we have for years. It has to be that way to some extent because hardware has much higher costs than software but I think the result is that we're not seeing the integration of "revolutionary" hardware concepts.
