Sunrise

The year rolls on, and with it the newest season of interesting new web ideas have entered BETA. Trying to decide whether to run for the hills, or get in line for invites? We’re here to help. This list will give you a few signs that will help you decide whether you really are an early adopter.

Signs

1. Sometimes you receive newsletters from companies that you didn’t know still existed.

2. You could get away with using your profile picture as a valid form of identification.

3. You have Mashable, Techcrunch and KillerStartups in their own special folder in your feed reader so you can be the first in the door.

4. Can’t help but mention how cool WidgtBoxrShareBook is on Twitter, Jaiku, Pownce, Facebook, Friendfeed, Social Thing! and anywhere else they still let you broadcast.

5. You can’t use OpenID because you’re not sure which of your 35 accounts to link to.

6. You have a half dozen weblebrities on your contact list just so you can get BETA invites hot off the presses.

7. You’ve registered for a BETA without actually knowing what the product did.

8. Your trail of dead accounts rivals the population of Guam.

9. You secretly dream of being on a first name basis with every community evangelist in Silicon Valley.

10. You’ve ever used the phrase “crowdsource” or “semantic” to describe a product — without a trace of irony.

11. You sometimes forget that you’ve registered for a site until, of course, you try to sign up again with a fresh invite code.
