At this point (as far as Google is concerned) isn't good, unique, and new content really taking over as far as trying to get ranked (and stay there)

It seems like anything else will just get you penalized these days.
Has anyone found anything that compares to content driven SEO?

Find free directories with high PR and try ti submit your link to as many as you can or You can exchange links with your friends. Try to get backlinks from relevant niches. This will help you to get good ranking in search engines
