Unfortunately PowerArchiver it is not open source or completely free. With their assertion of a Modern UI it concerns me that this may lead to bloated software. I never use the UI of my compression utilities.

I am always look for free and lean software and I think 7zip fits that bill very well. Never the less, thank you for the tip.

I completely agree with your OpenOffice recommendation. I've been using as my primary office app for a couple of years now.

I would suggest adding 7zip (http://www.7-zip.org/) as a replacement for Winzip or WinRAR. It is well designed and handles any cabinet file you can imagine as well as exe extractors.

I have used or currently use most of the software that you listed. Gimp is great and VLC is my favorite video player.

I would suggest uTorrent over Azureus though. Azureus used to be great, but the new Vuze version of Azureus is a great let down.
