I believe that any time it could be construed that you would have a bias, you should mention the source of that bias.

This is definitely (a rapidly) growing issue. One potential problem is that (I believe) if the search engines ever catch wind of sponsored content, there is a chance that they may: A. Start investigating your site with greater scrutiny and B. Possibly lower you on the SERP's. So, it seems like the search engine's approach of threatening (even just indirectly) sites with sponsored content, would seem to discourage people from disclosing anything. There is definitely a odd dynamic when it comes to sponsored content.
