A Miami man is under arrest in Coral Springs for a threat he posted online.
The story goes that Jean Vargas, an area warehouse worker, decided it would be a good plan to write a little post about going on a shooting spree at the Coral Springs Police Department. He chronicled this threat on his MySpace page, along with a glamor shot featuring him pointing a revolver.
Shooting Spree
Apparently, Coral Springs police took this seriously enough to beef up security at the department after being tipped off. They then tracked down Vargas and arrested him on charges of “writing threats to kill or do bodily harm.”
Vargas told police officers that, “I did something really stupid.”
A bigger question is where is the line between stupid Internet prank and credible threat and did Vargas cross the line with his Clint Eastwood Samuel L Jackson impression?
If there is a lesson to be had here it’s that using MySpace gets you sent to prison, just ask Lori Drew.
