Unfortunately, because our government can't manage to be as efficient as they need to be when creating and passing laws, they can't keep up with the pace of technology, and odds are Lori Drew will never be punished by law. The world wants justice for Megan Meier that we will probably never get.

What I want to know is why there didn't seem to be any social services inquiry into Drew's parenting of her own children.

Ok someone pulled a prank on a kid with a harmless verbal jab "The world would be a better place without you" and this retarded child kills herself. Sure you can argue that the adult should know better but to send them away for 20 years because some suicidal teenager took her "OWN" life is absolutely crazy.

But hey, this is america... everyone wants to have someone responsible for another persons death. You know there is a reason this F.cked up country is #1 in the world having the highest percentage of its citizens imprisoned.

People need to get a grip, death happens.. its part of life. Accidents happen as well. American citizens are put in jail for decades for involentary vehicular manslaughter because of traffic accidents... the owners of the station nightclub have practically been put in jail for the rest of their life because of an ACCIDENT!!! these people arnt murderers... they didn't go out looking to kill someone. They messed up and people died as a result because of their lack of foresite, these are things that could happen to anyone.

Tomorrow you could be facing jail time because your friend walked in your house and trips on your skateboard breaking his neck. Well your obviously responsible so off to jail you murderer!!! This Gdamn country just needs a well placed nuke up its ass to rid us of all these gdamn sissies who have pussified our country!

The sociological impact/reaction to what new technology inexorably ushers in, must by its inherent nature always play catch-up to the paradigm shift it engenders because of the time lag in which it takes it to reach critical mass as it pervades through society. It is indeed unprecedented but society has only taken to deal with it now because the issues technology has wrought is only now coming to the legal forefront.

As a society of laws, social mores, the fundamental principle as the underpinning of civilization is that we are responsible for our actions,
and any consequences it engenders as a result.

I applaud the actions taken in response to a horrible tragedy that was undoubtedly triggered by Lori, the degree in which society will respond,
mitigated as a lesser charge to reflect the the "intent" in which it was committed will certainly be a factor in meted the proper punishment.

the part about “accessing protected computers to obtain info” bit is implying that she pretended to be someone else in order to link up to the girl's profile so she could see her full myspace account. Strangely, if the girl's profile was public this charge would not stand.

So your saying that someone who was known to her (Lori) to be depressive… (Any adult can spot someone who is depressed) Has no responsibility for assaulting their mind and emotional state?

Thats like saying a guy who knows a guy in town has a bad heart and could die from a punch to the chest is NOT AT FAULT for killing him with an intentional punch to the chest…

Abuse is abuse, be it your child or someone else's… Be it physical, sexual or mental. Suicide was the end result… For chrimeny sake… “The world would be better off without you” from someone whom you cared about in a already tramatized and closed in mind is all it would take for some people and obviously for this CHILD.
