Hockey

Adrian Nadeau is the cofounder of YourTeam Online, a community for managing minor league sports.

It’s a combination Social Network and Social Broadcasting site for people interested in sports. Adrian took some time to answer a few of my questions about YourTeam, and here is what he had to say.

Who

YourTeam Online was a dream of it’s two main shareholders, Chris and Adrian Nadeau. Brothers from Canada, they have been involved in minor sports since an early age. Both went on to play high levels of Hockey. Chris played professional hockey for many yearsand his brother Adrian played University hockey in Canada for the Saint Mary’s Huskies in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Both went on to be successful coaches at many levels including Bantam and Midget in the Canadian Hockey system. This was where they realized a need for a more efficient way for minor sports teams to communicate inside the locker room, with parents and fans and along with other representatives within their league. With 6+ years experience owning their own software company (Evolving Solutions) Chris and Adrian decided to combine two of their passions; Sports and Web Development to come up with YourTeam Online.

What

YourTeam Online is a free sports management tool with a community flare to it. It allows teams to easily signup and have their own team website in minutes. There is no need for them to download or install any software. YourTeam Online is currently available for Hockey and Soccer. Teams can upload their logo, change colors and add content to their website pages (news, event information, etc). Along with the team features each user type (Admin/Coach, Player, Parent) have their own user account that allows them to upload photos (integrated with Flickr), video highlights (integrated with Revver), and communicate with other teammates and friends within the YourTeam Online community. Another special feature within YourTeam Online is Sportswire.

Sportswire allows teams, coaches, players and parents the opportunity to broadcast their results to the world. Sportswire has a Digg type voting feature that allows people to vote on top stories added to the community along with the option to comment on stories. A very exciting feature of Sportswire is what YourTeam Online calls Sportswire Live! Sportswire Live is an online TV show that broadcasts the best user generated content to the world via a professional sports show (A must see). YourTeam Online has many new features coming in the near future.

Why

Chris and Adrian Nadeau decided to create and develop YourTeam Online as a way to combine two of their passions, Sports and Web Development. YourTeam Online is currently in it’s second year of beta testing and the future looks great for it. It’s been a very exciting time so far and the most rewarding time is helping out Hockey and Soccer teams communicate better, which in the end helps coaches become better coaches and players and parents enjoy their respective sports that much more.

Entrepreneurship

Being Entrepreneurs in the Web 2.0 world is quite exciting for both of us, while at the same time overwhelming. It’s very interesting to see the entire Social Media movement unfold right in front of our eyes and how we’ve helped to be a part of it with the development of YourTeam Online. We’ve also been early adopters in the space with blogging, Facebook, Twitter, Friend Feed, etc. On one hand it’s very exciting to be developing a product in this time but it’s also hard to keep up on such a tight budget.

The current product has been designed, developed and tested on a $50,000 dollar seed investment. Raising funds has been a major hurdle for us to this point, however we continue to look for investments as well as creatively raise funds in other ways to continue on with the project. We feel that our program is a unique combination that is not available anywhere else for Sports: A team management tool, with a community to broadcast your results to the world. Aside from that, there are also some great individual tools to help coaches and players get to the next level.
