Steve, I really like your premise in the piece "Jack of One Trade." It appears that the complete quote reads “Jack of all trades, master of none, though ofttimes better than master of one”, which actually makes the cliched phrase postive rather than negative and further supports your argument.

The form and amount of information the human brain is fed with changes the way it is evaluated and stored. There are several changes like that in the access to information humans have had at hand and personally I don't think it is much different. For example writing is a massive change in the way information is perceived and stored, audio storage, tv these are about the same type of initially saturating changes. There are still underdeveloped human nations which are exposed to changes in information access so massive it's hard to believe and they cope with the change quite well.

In regard to the professional field deep instead broad specialization I don't really agree with that either. It's the broad common sense and fundamentals knowledge that matters in all cases. I would pick in every case a professional that has a bit less experience in the specific field but has had better achievements in other fields.

Best quality of human brain is it's short term memory ;-)

I like what you said ophelia. I also do believe that everyone of us are unique, but sometimes we need the help of other people to know where and what we are unique at.

i rather be the master of one trade, rather than the apprentice of many.

We are all unique in our skills, the hard part is finding what we are unique at, and if we can make a living from it.
