Facebook is becoming a, well, book. It looks like two Harvard grads, living in New York, have penned a $50,000 deal to write the The Facebook Book. It is supposed to be a satirical take on the Facebook phenomenon.
The two authors, Greg Atwan and Evan Lushing have loose connections to Mr. Zuckerburg’s online empire. At least Evan does. According to Caroline McCarthy, he attended Mark’s former boarding school — Phillips Exeter Academy. Greg’s Facebook profile is locked down, making him impossible to stal…investigate. The book should see print this Spring.
Whether it is creating copy-cat networks, suing Mark for bragging rights, or writing a book about that time you met Mark in the hallway and he told you about the social network he was coding in the basement, the real money in this whole Facebook “thing” seems to be the cottage industry that has formed around it.
Like stall owners at a flea market, everyone and their Aunt Sally is looking to take a piece of the Facebook pie. Fortunately, for most, as long as Facebook remains the social network de jour, that pie will be near endless. Well the book be good? Almost certainly not. Well it sell a lot of copies to the tech set? You can bet your pants.
Me, I am still waiting for the Facebook movie deal, I think Ryan Phillippe would play a good Mark.
