Andy Mitchell at Productive Firefox sent me an email to tell me about a great new extension to help you get some of your productive hours back. It’s called MeeTimer and its job is to keep track of how you are spending your time online.

The extension orders websites into rough categories like Productivity and Communication, and tells you not only how much time you are spending on a particular site but also how much time you are spending on the category as a whole. Spend too much time on Facebook? It can be set to alert you when you have reached the allotted amount of time for something like Procrastination.
The absolute best feature of MeeTimer is the ability to “black out” sites which are especially time consuming. If you have the problem that many of us do, you will habitually click on one of your favorite sites without even realizing why you do it. MeeTimer, once set, will black out the screen and give you the option to close out of this time sync before you can convince yourself that it’s too late to turn back.
Like GTDInbox and the suite of other productivity aids, MeeTimer is best used when you are really looking for a way to squeeze more time out of your day. It’s not a one shot solution to the problem of procrastination, but it can help you when all you need is a push in the right direction.
