This one brought a smile to my face. It turns out that Geohot, the 17 year old kid that manged to successfully unlock the iPhone in hardware has sold is prized unit for a pretty substantial reward.

Terry Daidone, the founder of a cell phone repair business called Certicell “purchased” the iPhone from Geohot for three locked iPhones plus a Nissan 350Z. Not a bad prize for a few hours worth of work.
While I am sure that Terry will make substantially more if he manages to package this solution before someone else beats him too it, but it does go to show what a little ingenuity can do. I just hope that Geohot doesn’t land into any legal trouble, I am sure the good people at Apple are not too happy with one of their product’s security features being so spectacularly undermined.
Do you think Geohot got a good deal? It can be pretty easily argued that he should have held out for some cold, hard cash but a bunch of iPhones and a new car are an attractive bargain for a kid just entering college. The spare iPhones are going to a few people who helped him hack the unit as well his first PayPal contributor.
Will be soon see a slew of unlocked iPhones. Chances are a bit better now than they were yesterday.
