Amazon

It looks like Amazon is joining the growing number of commerce sites that will be offering DRM Free music in the near future. After Steve Jobs blog post set the internet ablaze by calling for an end to DRM, and EMI said that they will be offering songs from their catalog without DRM, Amazon appears to have taken a hint.

This is a huge step in the fight for DRM free content, if for no other reason than the fact that Amazon currently has about 12,000 labels under its umbrella. Amazon plans to offer these songs in MP3 format so that they will be cross-compatible with all of your favorite MP3 players (and your iPod).

The question is whether their pricing will be low enough to encourage people to purchase these tracks, or whether they will be undercut by smaller niche services like Amie Street and Grooveshark DRM free music services. Either way, this is a incredible news and hopefully many other companies follow this example.
