TaskBin is a task management tool that focuses its attention on every productivity gurus favorite organizational tool, the To-Do list. What TaskBin does is allow you to share those To-Dos and collaborate on them with co-workers.
The idea is solid. Sometimes the hardest thing about getting a project completed is understanding exactly what each member of the team is supposed to be doing. TaskBin allows you to put all of these lists in one place and adds a layer of accountability. There is nothing more motivating than seeing that you are the only one who hasn’t even put a dent into your part of the project. The big problem with good ideas is that many times they have been done before. In this case, Ta-Da List and Remember The Milk have similar offerings
As for the implementation, for a BETA product it’s not too bad. The layout can be customized and skinned to suit the needs of the organization. The boxes that contain each group members tasks are functional, albeit a bit cluttered. I would like to see them do something about the pagination. It looks like they were trying to fit a lot of “stuff” into a relatively small amount of space, and what happened is that everything looks squeezed together. When you are designing a productivity product, the UI must be as efficient as possible.
Otherwise, it has a great set of features. You can pull your To-Do list out as an RSS feed and subscribe to your co-workers lists if you feel compelled to keep track of them. On top of that, adding and removing tasks is a breeze. What I wish is that the program would keep a running list of all the completed tasks for the entire project. It would be a great way for supervisors or project leaders to get a complete view of how the project is developing.
I am not certain how they are monetizing, but one way could be to go the 37Signals route and charge large companies a fee in order to scale up the offering. They could also charge to “host” an organization’s tasks, so that upper-management could have an easy way to dig into exactly what each segment of their business is doing. When you’re dealing with corporate productivity, you have quite a few options.
All in all TaskBin is a functional, easy to use piece of software. It could use a UI cleanup and you always have to ask yourself if we really need another To-Do list, but if you are new to the productivity sphere you should certainly give this product a look.
