For anyone who has not had the “privilege” of follow the battle between Jason Calacanis and Dave Winer this weekend on Twitter, let me summarize. Jason spoke at Gnomedex about Malhalo, Dave thought his presentation poisoned the event with rampant commercialism. There was a pretty substantial public “debate” over it, and then the two returned to their respective corners.

The Fall Out

There are two reasons that I am even talking about this, the first comes from Jason

“Yes, Dave resigned from TechCrunch20 today. I’m relieved. I don’t want folks trying to make a go of it berated by someone who made it”

For those who don’t know, the TechCrunch20 is a startup-centric Conference put on by Michael Arrington of TechCrunch and Jason Calacanis.

As it turns out, Dave really took this little spat to heart. While I can’t say I agree with either one of them, it is worth saying that as someone who has put on a conference before I wouldn’t be particularly happy if one of my panel members decided to turn a personal disagreement into something more than that.

I would like to believe that Dave is just a bit hot under the collar at the moment, but when our business lives and our personal lives get into bed with one another — strange things can happen.

Web 2.0 Roundup

Also, I would like to point you in the direction of the Tech Spoofs commentary on the event. I believe there is a lot of truth in satire, and hopefully both of these men will get the picture.

In what has to be the most substantive news of the day, Jason Calacanis is no longer invited on any more play dates with Davy Winer. Their families have been furious with each other since yesterday, when Davy called Jason’s newest toy “spam” and said he should take his ball and go home…
