Minority Report was a somewhat mediocre movie based on a much more interesting Phillip K Dick story. The idea behind it is that in the future we can detect crime before it happens, and we will arrest criminals before they actually commit heinous acts.
The very best part of the movie was not the Orwellian dystopia or the meandering yet strangely satisfying polemic on free will, it was the incredibly cool touch screen that Tom Cruise used to check his email. Multi touch, multi user screens seemed like something out of science fiction when Minority Report was first released, this video will show that the future is now and strangely enough it is Microsoft that is leading the charge.
Of course, these screens are far from being in your living room anytime soon. Being able to take inputs from multiple users on a single touch screen comes with a price. That price is just around $10,000. Expect the cost to drop substantially over the next several years. as this technology makes its way into more and more mainstream devices. Until then, sate your appetite for tech and make it a Blockbuster night.
