MySpace is to 2006 as GeoCities was to 1997. It is a painful, gaudy mish-mash of almost decent ideas and almost interesting personalities. It is also quite possibly the most important thing that has happened to the web for the common man since the invention of AOL.
What better way to get the discretionary income crowd to invest more into their favorite widget than to create a magazine? Like Pets.com and many others before them — MySpace is about to enter print, according to Advertising Age.
It is still on the cutting room floor, but features may include rousing articles about, “standout members and their interests”.
If they were really clever, they’d find a way to play garish MP3s everytime you opened the cover, followed by some well placed ultra-bright LEDs. It would make the readers feel right at home.
