Today’s theme seems to be music, so I thought it would be nice to introduce you all to some interesting ways to interact with music online. What I was looking for were sites that you might not have had to fortune of hearing about yet. That means that despite the fact that I love them, Pandora and Last.fm did not make the list (more on internet radio in a second).
When making this list, I’ve tried to pick out web applications that each offer slightly different ways for you to use your music. Hopefully, among them you will find something that you love.

Imeem
Imeem is a community where, “artists, fans & friends can promote their content, share their tastes, and discover blogs, photos, music and video.” What that amounts to is a lot of really interested remixed content, free streaming and customizable flash player. If you round that out with tagging you have a very solid pseudo-social network for the audiophile in all of us.
MediaMaster
MediaMaster lets you upload your music library, and “take it anywhere”. That means that you can access your tunes from any internet ready device you have at your disposal. It also gives you an opportunity to publish your collection to your blog through a widget. If you want to see it in action, take a look.
MySpaceMp3
MySpaceMp3 has a pretty simple premise. If it’s a song, and it’s from a band you have found on MySpace, then you can download it here. Now, using MySpace at all is questionable but if you have to this is a rather fine way to do it.
PocketFuzz
So, this isn’t quite free but it is terribly interesting. PocketFuzz lets you purchase ringtones and keep up with your favorite artists through mobile alerts. It also lets you send picture messages to the band. Now, if you have ever been to a ringtone site before, you usually can’t expect too much. PocketFuzz deliveries an excellent user experience, and is well worth a look.
Pickstation
Pickstation is social bookmarking but for music. Tracks are submitted and users vote them up. While there you can stream your favorites or make your own personal music station. I really like the idea of this site, but they could seriously use some exposure. Like any site that relies on user submission, it is only as good as the community that uses it. Give it a try today.
Kompoz
Kompoz is a collaborative composition engine. Compose new tracks with artists around the world, upload them and then invite others to make alterations. Hearing some of the tracks that they have come up with, I am really amazed at the coherence of the sound, considering it was an effort between musicians that may not have even been in the same country.
A top six list? Absolutely, that gives you four more spots to tell me interesting music related sites that you have come across. On top of that, I would like to take a moment to remind everyone that if your favorite music site does not appear to be working in the morning it is because tomorrow is the internet radio Day of Silence.
I hope you all (at least those in the states) take the opportunity to contact your Congressman and tell them that you you support sites like Pandora. Should the rate hikes that the Day of Silence is coming out against go through, many of your favorite internet radio stations will have to close their doors.
