Under: How To Keep Up
Welcome to How To Split An Atom. Why not take some time out to subscribe to our RSS feed? Thanks for visiting!
Passing along a little information from Darren over at Problogger. Apparently there is a new company out there (new is a loose term) that is offering to make custom spam comments for you. Basically, they look through a list of blogs and find blogs related to your niche. After that, they craft “non-spam” comments and post them to these blogs, linking back to the client blog.
According to Darren, they search for blogs that “follow” (i.e. that don’t have ‘no follow’ tags in their comments).

The company is known as “Buy Blog Comments.” From their website,
Blog comments help your site rank better in the SERPs. We hired a few people who go through a list of blogs in a database we set up and pick out blogs that are in your niche. They then read through blog posts and leave a comment that has to do with the blog post they read, that way it wont get deleted. Your backlink will then be on a targeted blog, giving you more weight in the search engines.
Not only do services like this poison the blogosphere, but they also discourage people from turning off “no follow” on their blogs. Sure, using this service might drive a bit more traffic to your site, but I know for a fact that getting found out would do irreparable damage to your reputation online. The fact of the matter is that it is not worth it for a few extra click thrus.

2Providing a link back was likely not the best thing to do. It least we know about them now, and I for one am going to look a bit more carefully at my comments from now on.

3Well, can you really say you are surprised? I’m not. As soon as something looks like it might help people earn, there’ is a program to do it automatically. I’m not saying I agree with, condone, or would consider using it, but I am certainly not surprised it exists. I just made the switch to DoFollow, so I’ll have to check my comments carefully.

4I am not at all surprised, in fact, I am surprised that there aren’t a lot more companies like this out there.
