Horray, it’s Google Searchology day!
Now, before you ask me what “searchology” is or why should I care, let me restate it: today is the day Google makes announcements about “cool new products, yippie!”
Great, now that you’re paying attention lets take a look at the pipeline.
Universal search
Now you won’t have to tab over if you want to do a Google Blog Search (say for your favorite How To Split An Atom post) or look up a company using Google Finance. Instead, all of this information will be presented on one page. For someone who finds himself using Google’s auxiliary services more and more, this will be a perfect feature.
(Update — If you want to here more about Universal Search why not let Google explain it to you?)
Meta Video Search
Within the Google 2.0: Google Universal Search, there’s a section that describes how Google Video is going to be listing video hosted from across the web, not just within Google Video or YouTube.
New Navigation
New contextual search in the top bar will let your sort results more efficiently.
Google Views
This might be the most interesting new feature. Google views is a take off of Google experimental (which allows you to experiment with Google’s interface). Google views give you the option of displaying search data in map, time-line and list form.
Adopt A Search Engine
When was the last time that anyone used lycos? There are so many search engines that have been left in the cold by Google, maybe today you could give one of them a chance. Go out there and adopt a search engine, you and Altavista used to be friends — why don’t you ever play anymore?
Get A Tattoo
A word like Searchology is just ripe for stamping on some overly conspicuous part of your body. I suggest the forehead or across the back. That way, next time you are at an interview, your potential employer will be able to read how Web 2.0 savvy you are right off of your face.

Blog About It
If you have a blog, this gives you a great excuse to write a fluff piece about Google. Trust me, the blogosphere will thank you for it.
The improvements to Google’s offerings are exclusively in the user interface. Google has already developed a slew of new ways to search for information, it is about time that they started innovating in the ways that they display it.
In order to use data effectively you have to have a method of sorting through it. I never thought I’d say it, but Google’s main interface was well overdue for a Web 2.0 makeover.
