Today Apple has announced that you just might be able to afford an iPhone after all. Over the last several months the rumor mill has told us that on top of the $500 price tag for Apple’s new killer consumer electronics product, you would have to pay upwards of $100 a month just to use the service. Fortunately for all concerned, today’s announcement brings the price down to just under $60.
Steve Jobs has decided to simplify the way they market the iPhones service plans, say that, “We want to make choosing a service plan simple and easy, so every plan includes unlimited data with direct Internet access, along with Visual Voicemail and a host of other goodies.” For $60 you also get 450 anytime minutes and 5000 nights and weekends.
Of course, there is still the $100 plan which offers unlimited nights and weekends and 1350 anytime, but for the more frugal amongst us their new economy package should offer plenty of bang for the buck.
The one thing that I wish they would include are roll over minutes. Some months are just more busy than others, and wasting all of my minutes on slow months just doesn’t sit well with me.
I would still recommend waiting on the first upgraded units to come out before getting your own iPhone, but with this news it seems a lot more likely that it’s going to have mass appeal. Until then, here are a couple of my favorite iPhone spoofs.
