Keeping ahead of the Social Media curve is a time sink, especially when it comes to the growing set of microblogging tools. On each of these sites you may have formed a network, but maintaining that network often involves tabbing through half a dozen windows and copying the same text over and over again.
HelloTxt is a decent first attempt at solving the dilemma of managing multiple microblogging services.
What HelloTxt lets you do is access Twitter, Jaiku, Yappd, Tumblr and several microblogging engines all from one dashboard. All you have to do is put in your credentials and then you are logged in and ready to broadcast.
The biggest problem is that beyond broadcasting a message, you can’t interact with any of these services in any real way. It is nice to be able to send a message out over Twitter without having to worry about repeating yourself to your Jaiku friends. It’s nicer still to be able to post your Jaiku musings missive to your Tumblr account without having to switch over, but without any way of seeing replies — the entire experience feels sterile.
The interface is clean and to the point. There is space enough to log into the various services and text fields to type your message. In the case of Meemi and Tumblr, there is even room to add a subject and tags.
If you really want to get the word out about something, HelloTxt is not a bad solution. When you are not too concerned about getting a reply it will save you a lot of time and effort. If you were looking for a more robust solution to help you consolidate your social media sites, however, you may want to look elsewhere.
