Big Bad Wolf

I am going to be in Philadelphia starting tomorrow, so blog posts will be slow. Before I leave I thought I would leave you with a few thoughts. Specifically about the little auto de fe that Matt Cutts started when he unveiled Google’s paid link crusade

Google Cracks Down On Paid Links

I decided to link to Scoble on this one because he makes a few lucid points that I don’t feel compelled to elaborate on.

Google is cracking down on paid links, which might be completely insane from an Internet Marketers perspective but honestly, when have the opinions of “New Media” marketers ever really mattered? That’s not a trick question.

Mom and Pop love Google because it works. Everyone outside of the Web 2.0 bubble loves Google because it works. People won’t stop using Google because folks like us can’t make quick cash off of selling links.

The point is that Google will do as it will. Getting mad at Google for going on a paid links witch-hunt is sort of like the recording industry getting mad at consumers for using Bit-Torrent. No matter how much you balk, you aren’t helping anything.

Web 2.0 Roundup

When market conditions change, change with them. If you are really upset, do something tangible about it. If politics has taught us anything it is that the sound of a million hands clapping is quite loud, especially if some of those hands have clout.

Everyone breath, big bad Google might drive a lot of traffic but they don’t own the Internet.
