Thanks, it just seems like a lot of the power that Google was given to it by us. If we just looked for other alternatives, we wouldn't have to go crazy every time they tweak their algorithm.

Thanks for the balanced view. It's nice to read a post that is not frothing at the mouth.

Thanks for the tip Andy. I thought I had caught all of those.

My claim is that in general Google is only interested in putting together a horse and pony show for its advertisers. Chances are good if they could just hit a button that put a blanket penalty of paid links, they would whether TC was included or not.

I don't like it, but it's something we need to accept or at least come up with a coherent strategy to fight it. Thanks again for the tip.

The reason Techcrunch and many other sites get away with the paid links is because it would make them look stupid, but they feel they can get away with giving a penalty to SearchEngineJournal and SERoundTable. anyway.

There has been a lot of collateral damage of people penalised who have never written a paid review, and even Duncan himself was hit for TLA ads a month ago.

You should really stick a nofollow on that link to Wild Apricot as people have been stung for less than that.
