How much of your car would you be willing to sell for free gas?

A California company wants to help you out for the low, low price of one side of your car. Freegashelp is a website that matches advertisers with vehicle owners, and lets you sell real-estate on your car in exchange for a monthly gas card. Your compensation can range from $40 all the way up to $2,400 a month.

The idea is that you sign up on the site, tell them a little bit about your driving habits and then they try to pair your car with advertisers. Along with placing a sticker on your side-panel or back window, the site expects you to drive at least 1000 miles a month.

Companies like this have existed forever, offering everything from cash to free use of a car in exchange for turning yourself into a driving billboard. With gas prices inching towards $5.00 a gallon, what might have once seemed a little crazy is becoming more and more reasonable.

The question is, would you rent out your car for free gas?

I read a quote saying that they If the are already competitive with oil prices at the scale they are running their Houston plant at. If this is the case then why would do need a Billion Dollar loan guarantee from the government.? Investors should be all over this.
Sounds like the making of a boondoggle to me. Hopefully I'm wrong but time will tell.

Great idea! These days we could all use a little extra spending money. I also like the sites that tell you where the best priced gas is within a given area.

A nice marketing campaign! Very helpful for all car owners who want some extra cash! And it seem to be a nice concept too. :D

That's a good idea. But be sure that it would be coming back to me with lots of fuel still. And all the parts like the bumpers and everything under the hood are still fine.

If no one else would drive it aside from me, guess it would be an ok deal. And of course provided that the things that I would be advertising does not include alcohol, porn or some "anti" and pro movements.

If I can make it up to the $2400 a month (which I doubt) I would think about it. As you mentioned with "gas prices rising up to almost $5 a gallon" it is not easy not to be tempted to. Will love to hear future comments on that type of business, looks very interesting. Today anything can be sold, it's amazing, even your own blood...

I've signed up to the site before, but was never contacted. I'm curious as to how many "billboard" cars they have going at any given time, what areas they look to advertise in, etc. I live in a fairly populated area near Philadelphia and drive on a major highway, but no luck yet!

While not a new concept at all it seems like the owners of that site are smart to tap into this "market" by targeting it during a time of financial crunch with gas. I see what look like college age kids driving around in advertisements all the time. I'm guessing that a lot of them do it for beer money versus gas money, but tomAYto tomAHto, right? :)

this idea might appear crazy to some but to me it makes sense as i can drive my car without pinching my pocket and with the way the gas prices are soaring northwards ,it is an idea worth giving a shot
