42 year-old Florida real-estate agent Deven Trabosh had an idea. She had two big problems, a house that she could no longer pay for and a lack of love in her life. She decided to solve both of these by putting her house and herself up for auction on eBay.
Life On Sale
Deven is a single mother of two “children” (one of them is 21, so not really a child) and has been trying to find a way to sell her home in a flagging housing market. To sweeten the pot, she created ads on eBay and Craiglists with this deal –
“If you want to live the never ending dream and experience the real love, life and the romance you have always felt was a fairytale then this is the vibrant outstanding woman of your dreams! To sweep this European Loving Lady off her feet send in your application right now.”
For .99 cents (and $500,000 shipping) you get a 2000 square-foot home complete with Berber carpet, upgraded tile and a live-in “love of your life.” That’s right, if you buy the house, she has to live in it with you.
eBay has never been too keen on the idea of people selling themselves online, or trying to cheat them out of their cut with the old “shipping” trick so they pulled the ad. Deven has pressed forward, creating a new, slightly reworded ad.
She says that the response has been excellent, and has received solicitations from people all over the world, including Claudio an Italian man that she says will be flying into Florida to meet her later this summer.
She’s confident that love is just one bid away.
