One of the most anticipated movies of this year is J.J Abram’s Cloverfield. With a build up that has spanned television, blogs and even MySpace page, Cloverfield is also a New Media darling. I had a chance to see a pre-screening of the film tonight, and this is what I took away.
Synopsis
The best part of this movie was how well it was arranged. If you are expecting something out of Blair Witch, think again. Even from a first person perspective, the director manages to provide a clear exposition. You are treated to all the fire and explosions that one would expect of a “monster movie,” but it is all set within the frame of a believable storyline.
Cloverfield is not for the easily queasy. The camera work ranges from mostly benign to the absolutely nauseating. It’s like being on the Back To The Future ride at Universal, sometimes it’s hard to tell what you’re looking at between the collapsing buildings and the always “just a little too dark” atmospheric lighting. It really makes it hard to see the . . .
