I don't mind long domains as long as they're memorable. Ha, I think it's the first three letters – they blur in certain typefaces or if you have awful vision.

You're right, while your first choice probably is taken, you should still be able to find a suitable domain name without it looking like a spam address. When I chose a new domain name I will not purchase until I have at least ten different permutations and then I like to have friends or family look at my list. Usually when they look they will either choose one that jumps out at them, or they will get an idea from your list.

What is your opinion on long domain names? howtosplitanatom.com isn't really short, but so isn't the site I am running with some friends (www.iliketotallyloveit.com). Not everyone loves it.
