Lets take a look at a few stories that didn’t make it into the rotation.
A Cautionary Tale

Businessweek notices a fundamental shift in the way that readers are consuming media. Unfortunately, this prescience comes years after the real damage has been done to the advertising bulwarks that prop up local newspapers.
Hear it all through the sad, sad tale of the Mercury News.
Thoughts: This really is a cautionary tale for old media types. We exist in a society where you either choose to evolve your business model and exploit new technologies, or you down kicking and screaming as your revenue dries to a trickle.
Raising Forums From The Dead

The running question, “are Forums old hat?” Meetro doesn’t seem to think so. They are creating a Forum white label akin to Blogger. Will it work out? There is really no one to think that anyone will care. Forums, for the most part, have been replaced in the public consciousness. It will be interesting to see if there is enough real innovation for Meetro to beat the odds and breath more life into them.
Commentary:
Forums don’t generate fast traffic.
Forums generate a stronger community.
Forums are a lot of work, work that most everyone who creates them grossly underestimates.
Forums are only really useful in settings where you have a product/service/etc… to discuss, or you have a particular conversation worthy topic.
Dead Forums are the saddest thing in the world.
Meetro sounds very similar to Tangler made less interesting. Does that mean it’s bad? No, it just means there isn’t much new to see here. The reason that Forums (SomethingAwful, Sitepoint etc…) still exist is because they are the rare occasions that all the rules of proper Forum development were followed.
Did You Say Your Name Is, Rambling Rose?

Facebook is sued over dirty text messages, Apple tries to put the kibosh on illegal resellers by limiting how many units that consumers can purchase and Leopard is released to much fanfare.
