Problem is most bloggers who copy will claim fair use if the stuff they have copied has been changed enough, there are also other loop holes to consider.

I can vouch for this. It is one nice piece of software and a copywriter's best friend. If your in the copyrighting business or just hate people stealing your content in general then this is worth every penny.

Having talked with Rich for a while I agree. I haven't heard a more coherent strategy to stop online plagiarists in quite sometime. If they can make the deals that they need to with the major search engines, they are definitely going to be a company to watch.

Attributor is one of the few companies that really has the potential to change the game when it comes to content theft on the Web. They're tackling the two biggest obstacles that get between people and effectively protecting their work: Time and knowledge.

They give people the knowledge they need, both in terms of who is using the content and what they can do about it, and package in a time-effective way. This could, effectively, empower just about anyone to monitor and protect their works on the Web.

The questions you raise are both valid ones though and both are questions I'm looking forward to seeing the answer to. My own personal experience has shown both strong resistance with anything less than a DMCA notice and with Google in general, but a company like Attributor might be able to push some change.

At least that is what I'm hoping.

Disclosure: I do consulting work for Attributor.

They are planning to offer a somewhat watered down version to bloggers for free. We won't be able to see it until January or February though. This is a great idea though, I am really impressed.

Oh, this is good. My blog has been getting scraped, and my site is going to be content heavy. I'm all over this, thanks for the post!
