I totally agree with this. Driving while talking on the phone is like putting on a blindfold and hoping for the best.

Very interesting post. I can definately see how listening in on a conversation could affect your concentration. On the same hand though would having a conversation with someone in the passenger have the same affect

In UK using a mobile while driving OR even stationary with the ignition on has been illegal for some time now, tho' I think hands free devices are still ok.
I think it's a good thing. You can always pull over for a call, unless it's a freeway.
Far too often you saw people so engrossed in their mobile conversations that they couldn't possibly be paying proper attention to the road & other traffic.
Obviously talking to a passenger or listening to them talk on their mobile can be distracting, but at least a passenger can yell out if they see a possible hazard, a function a mobile on its own doesn't have.

Interesting post..... In July California will be outlawing operating a motor vehicle while using a cell phone. However, using a handsfree device such as a bluetooth, is entirely permissable.

[...] Phone Topic - Your Cell Phone Source wrote an interesting post today onHere’s a quick excerpt File this one in the applied common sense department. Cell phones are a distraction while driving. Obvious enough. If you’re “chatting” with your inlaws, while programming your Magellan and changing the track on your audiobook version of the latest Grisham novel, all the while trying to switch lanes on the Interstate, some part of that is going to get neglected. What you might not know is that if the person in the passenger seat is the screaming about that weekend’s quality time with the [...]
