Al Gore’s Penguin Army” is a short clip on social video site YouTube that satirizes Al Gore and global warming. This video may turn out to be more than a little inconvenient for none other than Exxon Mobile.

It has been reported that “Al Gore’s Penguin Army” may not be an amateur video hacked together by a twenty-something sitting with his Mac in his garage, but instead might be a clever plant by the PR firm DCI, who just happens to have Exxon Mobile as one of its major clients. This sort of propaganda injection is known as astroturfing.

While it is impossible to be sure whether DCI had anything to do with it because they will not release their client list (nor should they), it stands to reason that Exxon would have quite a bit to gain from getting the public to stop thinking about global warming. Just ask anyone in New York.

[Exxon sign provided by cbsnews.com and yes, I apologize for the pun in the title.]
