Ziv llan was kind enough to tell us about his new project, zoybar. This community helps designers create their own unique musical instruments using an open platform. Here’s his story.

For me the most exciting thing about Zoybar is the new approach in the relationship between the manufacturer and it’s users.

The Zoybar platform is not just a new line of instruments.

Zoybar was design as an open platform that could be upgraded and improved by its users in a decentralized R&D environment. You should think of the Zoybar platform as a hardware version that might be similar to the Firefox browser concept.

Independent developers could create new add-ons and plugins (sound effects) that will become relevant to the whole Zoybar users and community.

Almost any application can be easily attached to the Zoybar platform, just by adding and changing its position across the profile groves with common bolts and screws.

This means that the Zoybar users will have numerous modifications and upgrade options as more developers will join the community.

Adding a new feature or swapping components between the Zoybar community will be an amazing low cost option for those who are always looking to enrich their sounds, instruments and performance repertoire.

The development of new features is done on a real working platform at real-time and can be replaced or produced aside the existing components in a quick transition time.

Now, the development of new features can be focused entirely on a specific function, and can be collaborative with other developers on the platform.

This could also be a great opportunity for small business like local luthiers and sound effects manufacturers as a new market.

In this way Zoybar is unique and there is no other company or instrument like it. The development will never end as long as there is a need for customization.

It’s always exciting to see a project comes to life.

We received great responds over the Zoybar project during its launch, and I’m looking forward to see what kind of music and instruments the users would create with it.

I think that this project is still in its early stages for making determined conclusions.

The Zoybar project is a combination of traditional industries that are marketed and distributed on the web. The nature of the web interaction is in the speed of light compared to the pace of the manufacturing abilities.

We had to take a design approach that would be flexible in producing a high variety of low demand products, while maintaining the high productivity of large scale production.

There are a lot of clichés out there about innovation and marketing strategies but a lot of them are not relevant as a universal advice.

I think that every entrepreneur should start with the basics by setting his goals and knowing his limitations.
