Under: Ideas We Like

I hate to tell you this but your PC is getting old. If your machine has more than a year or two under its belt you’re probably starting to notice the fine lines and crows feet. Sure it might tell you that it is still as good as any of those young whipper-snappers, but that fractured hip and a quick peek under the hood will show you that it has seen better days.
There are a near limitless number of tweaks and fixes you can apply to try to hold back the ravages of time, but all of them take time, patience and a good handle on how your computer works. Digital Support Technology recently released a tool to help anyone (well almost anyone) poke around in their computer without risking a visit from Microsoft’s Blue Angel of Death.
PC Fixer is pretty simple, it scans your registry and settings and tells you if anything is out of the ordinary, explaining what it thinks is wrong and offering solutions. Years of spyware, virus’ and other bits and bytes have probably also left a few gaping holes in your machine’s security — PC Fixer will find those as well and suggest methods of correcting them. To make things easier, with one click you can have PC Fixer do the heavy lifting for you.
This is a great piece of software for the “above average” PC user. While a lot of the explanations are easy to understand, it would be difficult for someone who hasn’t already played around with their settings to tap into the full power of the program. On the other hand, it is free to use (DST makes money on additional live tech support) so it’s worth a spin for anyone who is trying to plug a few holes in his machine.
