A bit of interesting news from the people at Hitwise. First, Hitwise is a company that specializes in correlating data from ISPs and using it to extrapolate trends. This time around, they have determined that YouTube has had a significant impact on user search behavior.

The study focused on internet users in the UK. It turns out that since the introduction of YouTube, the number of people searching for “funny videos” has decreased proportionately with the increase in the searches for “YouTube”.

This isn’t really surprising, as YouTube really did corner the “funny video” market. What will be interesting to see is what other keywords have been hijacked by YouTube. My bets are on karaoke.
