Every so often I like to take a step back and look at where technology will be heading. In this case, image resizing is being taken to spectacular new heights with this research from Dr. Ariel Shamir and Dr. Shai Avidan. Dynamic resizing, partial resizing and retargeting could add huge amounts of value to web applications where space is at a premium or it is impossible to predict the native resolution of the viewer.

Thanks to Techcrunch for bringing this video to my attention. Given enough time this type of research could introduce entirely new design paradigms for developers building around mobile devices and other non-standard platforms.
