Academy Awards

The TechCrunch40 is the blogosphere’s equivalent of the Academy Awards. Many applied, few were selected and now they are all coming out to the red carpet — which in Valley terms is the Palace Hotel in San Fransciso.

If you are one of the chosen 40, the 100 in the Demo Pit, or just an entrepreneur embroiled in a similar event here are a few things to keep in mind:

  1. Get your pitch in order. No one has time to hear you ramble for 30 minutes about your social graph. Thirty seconds, three sentences, get it right or don’t bother.
  2. The answer to, “How are you going to make money?” is advertising. Just say it and move on from there.
  3. 60% of your company for Series A Funding is likely a bad idea. No capital is sometimes better than dumb capital.
  4. Have some fun. Remember investors are human beings too. Avoid the marketese, kowtowing and cliches. They have heard them all before.
