So, what is Android? It’s Google’s mobile platform formerly touted as the Google Phone.

Why is it important? Well, Google is throwing $10 Million worth of capital at it to get people to develop applications.

Want some wild speculation? Android could be the future operating system of the new gPhone if the Google/Sprint acquisitions rumors pan out.

Now for some show notes.

  1. Sergey Brin gives a terrifyingly wooden intro.
  2. Apparently in order to create great products you need to live with them.
  3. Android has, among other things, Google Maps integration.
  4. The high end prototype has a web browser with a really interesting looking visual history.
  5. Android plays Quake?
  6. Integrated Street View makes creepy map-stalking all the more relevant.
  7. Sergey really looks like he’s on a bad infomercial, which isn’t too far from the truth.

Android looks like a promising platform. I am really interested in seeing what developers do with the tools. Even more interesting, I want to know what Google’s ultimate plans are for this move into the mobile phone space. I would be more than a little surprised if Larry and Sergey didn’t still have a card or two up their sleeves.
